LONDON DARLINGS are a deeply passionate band hailing from the skies of their imaginations. They are a few cheeky Londonites up to their ears in sex fuelled antics and funky ass pursuits. Their music is punky with a funky twist and brings in elements from rock, ska, alternative, hip hop and indie to create their own original, real sound. There is always an element of surprise ready to be thrown out as soon as you’re feeling for a little bit of extra umph to blow off your button.
TRAILER Trailer all the way from Coventry, which seems to be going through a bit of a purple patch now in terms of music. Blending the thumping beats of Underworld with the anthemic kind of tracks that Kasabian bang out together with a bit of Liam swagger, Trailer seem to have a whole album’s worth of tracks that deserve your ears. ‘Set the Country on Fire’ in particular has the kind of energy and positivity that I’ve not really heard since the glory days of Asian Dub Foundation. Ace.
THE CUTAWAY began 6 years ago when 4 boys, from the leafy part of London, started tinkering with instruments in a bid to impress those they were inspired by. An eclectic clash of interests made for some intriguing music, a lot of which never made it to the public ear, but remained hidden away in a small drafty garage in the South West of London. That same garage saw the group hone their distinctive musical style over the coming years earning them such praise as creating ‘delicate acoustics and haunting melodies’ (The Observer). They have since explored the many wonderful venues of the big city and developed a loyal and raucous following, their live shows often descending into 50 minute sing-alongs. Most excitingly, however, are the new additions to the line-up. Hearing Chrissie sing one of their tracks one evening was enough to ask her to join as was Emma’s original contribution to the recording of the bitter sweet love letter ‘Concreta’. So now, as the 6 piece family that they have evolved into, The Cutaway continue to paint the suburban landscape with music and sounds sweet enough to make your ears smile.
